How about watching someone else rake all those leaves in your yard or do that painting you keep putting off? The annual Copan FFA Labor Sale will be held on Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center. Dinner will be served and the auction will begin soon after. Please come and support the Copan FFA and get some help with all those honey-do’s.

The Copan All Sports Booster Club congratulates all the winners in the “Football Field Goal Challenge” that was held during half-time of the High School game on Oct. 22. Be sure to bring your dollar and take your chance to kick a field goal at the next couple of home games.

With only two home football games left, be sure to wear your Black & Gold to the game for an opportunity to win prizes in the half-time drawings. Let’s pack the stands with Black & Gold to show your support for our team.

CASBC is currently selling “Home of a Hornet” yard signs for $12 and “Hornet Football” window decals for $8. These items along with other “Hornet Gear” can be purchased at home football games or by contacting Pandy Buske 532-5400, Tonya Johnson 532-4533, or Shelly Koster 914-3444.

The next regular meeting of the Copan All Sports Booster Club will be Wednesday, Nov. 1. Please join us to help support our student athletes. The junior high football team will have a home game against Prue on Monday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m. The high school will have a home game against Picher on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

Pre-K and Kindergarten classes are celebrating Fire Prevention Week by going to the Copan Fire Department and having a fireman as a guest speaker in their classes. Pre-k-fourth will be traveling to Pawhuska on Thursday, Oct. 12, to see a play titled “Pecos Bill and the Ghost Stampede” at the Constantine Theater.

Mrs. Moore, Elementary Principal, would like to remind parents to sign in at the office and put on a visitors badge while they are in our building. Parents and guests need to enter the building through the west doors by the Principal’s office.

Orders are currently being taken for Hornet T-shirts (gold tie-dye with black print), Hoodies (black with gold print), and Sweatpants (black with gold print – “HORNETS”). All items are available in sizes from Youth Small – Adult XXXL.

Order forms are available at the elementary school and must be returned by Wednesday, Oct. 11. Several Copan friends and family attended the wedding of John Werts and Mallory Freeman on Saturday, Sept. 30, in Sand Springs. The newlyweds are making their home in Sperry.

John is the son of Jerry and Liz Werts and is employed by the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. Congratulations and Best Wishes!

The Copan Junior Class Parents are holding a garage sale at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Dewey on Saturday, Oct. 14, from
8 a.m.-3 p.m. The money raised will be used for the 2007 Copan AfterProm. Any donations would be appreciated. Please call Debbie Sousa at 532-4554 to schedule a drop-off.

Copan FFA member Cassie Pirtle received high honors at the Tulsa State Fair with her Dorset Breeding Ewe Lamb receiving Reserve Champion Dorset and also 3rd overall in the Breeding Show. Cassie also recently exhibited in the Great Plains Regional Dorset Show and placed 5th.

Correction: I incorrectly stated last week that Jerry Monday was a Wann Volunteer Fireman. Actually, Jerry is a
Copan volunteer fireman and the Copan Assistant Chief! Sorry for that error.

Our local fire department has helped with several fund raisers for Jerry, including the car wash last Saturday and a benefit steer roping held at the Brown’s arena. Both events were considered a huge success and the firemen thank the community for supporting their efforts.

Chief Buck Lemmons submits the following activity report for our Volunteer Fire Department for the month of September: Three EMS calls, one injury accident, three grass fires, one tractor fire and a power line down. We are fortunate to have a well-trained and readily available emergency/fire service in our small town. Thanks to all the volunteers!

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. — II Timothy 1:7
